This is my first commercial assignment. The assignment was dairy, so I decided to do the ultimate form of dairy… milk! I wanted to create a rustic farmhouse vibe but with a modern twist. As my sister calls it, farmhouse glam! I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s crisp and clean, and I like the composition a lot. I feel like each item leads into the next well, and overall there is a nice triangular composition that keeps the eye moving through the image. I’m excited that this is my first image because I can only get better from here. Maybe future pictures won’t turn out as successful as this one, but I know that I will be improving in my skills and seeing how I can make my photos better from here on out.

This is a photo I took when I was taking pictures at a family’s gender reveal party. Pictured here is the grandmothers from each side of the family. I thought this was a cute and beautiful moment to capture, and one that the family could treasure forever. I titled it sharing warmth because literally, they are sharing a blanket, as it was a bit chilly that day. It could also be taken metaphorically because this is a simple act of kindness, just sharing a blanket to ward off the chill in the air. I really love this shot because of the moment it is capturing.

Here is a basic glass assignment that I did for product lighting last semester. It is a very basic exercise but really important to know how to do. I really like this photo and decided to post it because it shows a basic skill that I have obtained here at RCC. This assignment was really fascinating to me to set up and see how it looked in my camera’s viewfinder because it was so simple and yet it ended up looking so cool. This method of lighting glass is called bright field. There is another method called dark field where the background is black and the glass shows up through highlights created with a reflector. I will post the photo that I shot for that as well.

This photo was taken in about 3 minutes. My friend, Natalie and I walked outside and found a little spot on campus to take the picture. I was taking this photo for our color printing weekly assignment; a black and white portrait. I took her to the shade of a tree next to a white building that was in the sun. She was getting some fill on the right side of her face from that building, but the light was soft from the shade of the tree. There is also a really nice separation from the background on the left side of her face. The sliver of light separating her from the background simply was from a break in the leaves that framed her face beautifully. I actually like this picture in black and white better because it makes her freckles pop. I am proud of and love this photo of my beautiful friend.

This photo shows shadows of leaves in the sand. I thought it was an interesting combination, to have sand, like the beach, but show the shadows of a deciduous type of tree’s leaves. You would expect to see more like palm leaf shadows in sand, but there is sort of a juxtaposition here. This is a detail shot of kind of a tropical getaway in the middle of the woods. Put into context, this is a picture from a place hidden away in Asheboro that one would never expect to find. It’s sort of a tropical area, really in the middle of the woods. The photo could be about taking time to get away or to decompress, without having to go too far away from home.

This is a photo of Badin Lake in Uwharrie National Forest. The sun had just set, therefore the water was a soft, dark navy-gray color with little pops of a muted yellow color from what light was left in the sky. Yellow is the compliment to blue, and since all the colors are muted, it is cohesive and soft. I like the black lines created by the ripples because it gives the water a graphic quality, along with all the dots that are waterbugs. I was drawn to this scene because of all the waterbugs on the surface of the water. They reminded me of freckles or something. Lake freckles! How cute!
